Our highly trained ophthalmic assistants are knowledgeable and experienced in helping you select from our large inventory of eyeglass frames. From designer fashions to
classic, sporty, or budget frames, you're sure to find your perfect look. Our ophthalmic assistants will, in conjunction with
our doctors, counsel you on the best possible spectacle lenses to meet your needs, prescription and budget. They will have your lens precision ground and inserted into your selected frame. They will then verify all optical parameters for accuracy. The next step is to deliver, adjust and counsel you on the proper
usage and care of your spectacles. Furthermore, all glasses from the Don Mills Optometric Clinic are backed by our
exclusive two-year frame and lens warranty.
Why Buy Your Eye Wear From
Don Mills Optometric Clinic? For many people, glasses are a necessity for clear vision, reduced visual
fatigue and eyestrain, and improved quality of life. Aside from these essential functions, today's spectacles are an important fashion item that can enhance one's appearance.
Today, there are many choices as to where to get your spectacles. This has resulted in a great deal of confusion with respect to such things as:
- Price
- Quality
- One-Hour Service
- "FREE" Frames/Lenses
- "Two-For-One" Specials
The health of your eyes and the quality of your vision is of the utmost importance to the doctors and staff of Don Mills Optometric Clinic. We wish to inform and educate our patients in buying quality eye wear.
Don't Compare "Apples To Oranges"
There are enormous differences in the quality of frames, lenses and lens coatings. Since spectacles are something you use every day, it is definitely in
your best interest to purchase good quality, durable eye wear. Eye wear should not be prone to breakage and should be serviceable if damage occurs.
Good quality eye wear is not available everywhere. There are many opticals in today's marketplace that carry poor quality products. Be wary of the product
quality at places offering "free" frames or lenses and "two-for-one" specials. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is! At Don Mills Optometric Clinic, we carry only high-quality frames, lenses and
lens coatings as do some opticals. If you compare these products to those at Don Mills Optometric Clinic (apples to apples), you will inevitably find that our prices are lower.
There are several reasons why our prices are lower:
- We are not in high-rent shopping malls; therefore, our overhead is less.
- Most opticals spend a considerable amount of money on print, radio and T.V. ads, then recover the money from you! We are not allowed to advertise as per our regulations. We pass our savings on to you!
- Our regulations require that we charge the patient only our laboratory invoiced cost of materials plus a professional dispensing fee to provide the service. This dispensing fee is based on the complexity of the
prescription and not on the cost of the materials. Thus, there are no enormous retail mark-ups.
As our fee for service is independent of the type of frames and lenses you buy, there is no built-in incentive for us to "sell" you the most expensive frame or
lens. Further, we have no reason to buy vast quantities of a few products as do many chain optical stores, and recommend them as "the best" for everyone.
We will only advise you to purchase the type of eye wear that is best suited to your needs. We ensure this by:
- Performing a comprehensive eye health and vision examination.
- Determining what types of lenses and frames you have worn in the past, and whether or not you were comfortable with them.
- Finding out what your occupation and hobbies are. Tasks such as intensive computer use and racquet sports may require special glasses to improve efficiency and decrease eye and body strain.
- Determining risk factors for your eyes (e.g., medications, aging, UV exposure) to decide which coatings and tints may be necessary.
We Promise To Spend More Than One Hour With Your Glasses! Good quality takes more than one hour to achieve. There are 57 separate
steps in the manufacturing of eyeglasses. At Don Mills Optometric Clinic, we are able to "shop around" for you to find optical suppliers and laboratories that
provide a premium product quickly. On average, our delivery time is two to four days, and in certain cases, spectacles can be fabricated on a same-day basis.
In addition, there is a multiple inspection system to ensure your glasses are presented to you with accurate power, distortion-free view, proper lens cutting, and that they are uniformly tinted and coated.
In fact, the July 1997 issue of Consumers Report rated private doctor's offices the highest in terms of overall: quality, prescription accuracy, selection and price!!!

Lens Materials
- Plastic Lenses

Photosensitive lenses tint automatically, adjusting to the intensity of light passing through the lenses. Tint darkens outdoors and lightens inside. Provides UV protection. Available
in glass or plastic.
- Polycarbonate Lenses
The most impact-resistant material. Shatter-resistant and lightweight. Good for the active child or athlete.
- Glass Lenses
Durable, scratch-resistant material. Provides superior optics.
- Specialty Occupational Lenses
Specially designed lenses to help reduce eye strain and fatigue. Perfect for computer users, pilots and drivers.
- Prescription/Non-Prescription Sunglasses
Lens Treatments
- Tinting
Blocks transmittance of light waves, reducing glare and strain.
- UV-400
Blocks UVA, UVB and UVC bands of ultraviolet light waves. Effective in reducing the risk of cataract development. Sources include fluorescent lighting as well as natural lights.
- Scratch-Resistant Coating
While not making plastic, polycarbonate or high index lenses "scratch proof," it will harden the surface making them less susceptible to scratching from everyday wear.
- Anti-Reflective Coating
Improves vision in all lighting conditions by allowing more light to reach the eye. Eliminates reflection while
dramatically improving night vision/night driving and easing fatigue from computer work or reading in harsh light.
- Chemical Tempering for Glass Lenses
Heat treatment applied chemically to glass lenses to provide strength and lens durability.
